Mark joined Castel as chief executive officer in July 2013.
Mark, who brings over 35 years experience within the insurance industry, has overseen the successful launch of Castel along with the creation of its first underwriting cells. Prior to joining Castel, Mark was chief executive officer at Wildnet Group which he co-founded with Benfield in April 2004. Before this, Mark spent 20 years working within the Lloyd's broking community.
David is director of underwriting for Barbican Managing Agency Limited.
With over 20 years of experience in the London and European markets, David Booth has a first class underwriting track record in marine and aviation reinsurance, in addition to considerable management experience.
Prior to joining Barbican, David was at Endurance Worldwide Insurance, most latterly as business unit manager for the specialty underwriting department. He has held a number of senior management and underwriting roles, including as marine underwriter for Cologne-based Europa Ruckversicherüng and marine reinsurance underwriter for DS Christiansen Syndicate 958.
Iain is the managing director of Barbican Managing Agency Limited and joined in June 2016.
Prior to joining Barbican, Iain was chief executive officer of Capita Managing Agency and led the projects to establish Probitas Syndicate 1492 and Allied World Syndicate 2232. During his extensive career, he has held a number of senior executive roles in the Lloyd’s market, including managing director of Max at Lloyd’s (formerly Imagine Syndicates and Abacus Syndicates Ltd).
Iain is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Certified Accountants.
Stephen is general counsel and joined Barbican in June 2010.
Stephen is responsible for all of the group’s legal affairs, with particular emphasis on corporate affairs, commercial transactions and general insurance matters (both contentious and non-contentious). As corporate secretary, he advises and supports the Group's Boards and Committees.
Before joining Barbican, Stephen was legal counsel and company secretary at Equitas for over 12 years, prior to which he was in private practice with leading law firms in London and Melbourne.
Stephen holds degrees in Law and Economics from the University of Melbourne. He is a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria and High Court of Australia and is admitted to practise as a solicitor in England and Wales.
Thomas is co-founder and managing director of Seacurus which became part of Barbican Insurance Group in June 2013.
Following fourteen years of deep sea experience on all vessel types and in all ranks, Captain Thomas Brown graduated from Plymouth University with a BSc (Hons) in Marine Technology and Marine Law. Thomas spent seven years working at a senior level in the claims department of a leading International Group P&I Club before he co-founded Seacurus in 2004.
Andy joined Barbican in March 2008 and is active underwriter for Syndicate 1955.
Andy brings 20 years of international casualty treaty experience to Barbican. He started his career at Norwich Winterthur Re in 1981, moving to the casualty division as a deputy underwriter under David Watson in 1989.
In 1993 Andy joined Frankona Re UK as casualty underwriter responsible for UK, Ireland and Australia. He specialised in motor and general liability excess of loss treaty business. In 1996 Andy joined Everest Re UK branch as casualty underwriting manager with responsibility for all casualty treaty lines in the UK and Europe.
Ben is group chief actuary and joined Barbican in June 2009.
Ben leads the actuarial and exposure management departments within Barbican and brings high levels of systems, processes and data management expertise to the role.
Ben began his career in 2001 at PriceWaterHouseCoopers in the pension consultancy area providing services to a number of FTSE 250 companies. He moved into the insurance industry in 2004, joining the actuarial team at Whittington. Ben then became casualty divisional actuary at Liberty Syndicates with sole responsibility for actuarial output for the casualty division.
Richard is the deputy managing director of Barbican Managing Agency Limited, where he has responsibility for the day to day management of the agency, with particular emphasis on business planning, claims and Minimum Standards compliance.
Richard has a long track record on the management teams of Lloyd's businesses. Prior to joining the company, he was assistant finance director of the Imagine Group's Lloyd's division, and before that syndicate and group financial controller at SVB plc (now Novae), a listed Lloyd's reinsurance group. He joined Barbican in early 2009 to build its finance function, first as the group financial controller and then group finance director, before moving across to his current role.
Richard is a Chartered Accountant and fellow of the ICAEW. He holds a History degree from Kings College London.
Simon joined Barbican in February 2014 to head up and develop the Compliance and Risk Management functions.
Simon brings a great deal of insurance industry experience to the role. Prior to joining Barbican, he spent 8 years at Zurich Insurance Group accross a number of senior compliance roles. Simon has also held senior management positions at Old Mutual, Beachcroft Regulatory Consulting and NatWest.
Simon holds a bachelor's degree in Mathematics & Statistics and a master's degree in Management Science. He also holds an ICA Diploma in Governance, Risk and Compliance.
Lloyd joined Barbican as group finance director in May 2015.
He is a chartered accountant with extensive experience in the London Market insurance and reinsurance industry. Having trained with Deloitte, Lloyd joined RSA in 1992 and became finance director supporting the London Market businesses. He then became director of RSA's run-off business, leading a complex part VII transfer and the profitable disposal of two group companies, together with effecting finality solutions for complex insurance/reinsurance contracts. In 2009, Lloyd was made managing director of a fee for service business within RSA and led a business turnaround culminating in a business disposal for value.
Nick is co-founder and a director of Seacurus which became part of Barbican Insurance Group in June 2013.
Nick has worked in the London insurance and reinsurance market for the last 25 years. Prior to his involvement with Seacurus, Nick was divisional director of financial risks at QBE, where he was responsible for the underwriting of financial guaranty insurance for shipping, aviation and property assets.
Nick has a BSc (Hons) in International Shipping and Maritime Law from Plymouth University and a master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Surrey.
Neil first joined Barbican in August 2008 and is managing director of Barbican's group operations services.
Neil has a wide range of operations, technology and underwriting performance experience, with previous roles at Barbican including head of underwriting management and agency operations managers. Prior to joining Barbican, Neil was syndicate underwriting performance executive at Lloyd's and was responsible for working with selected Managing Agents on underwriting performance, annual business plans and reporting. Having started his insurance career in 1990 at RSA, Neil has held number of senior management positions at QBE, Chubb and General Accident.
Neil is a fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute, an associate of the Chartered Management Institute and an associate of the Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators.
Simon joined Barbican in April 2010 and is division head of marine, aviation and transport.
Simon has over twenty years of experience in the insurance industry. In 1994 he joined a small firm of management consultants dedicated to the insurance industry. 1997 saw Simon return to broking with the international marine reinsurance division at Aon. In 2005, he joined Agnew Higgins Pickering, working in international marine and energy reinsurance.
David joined Barbican in July 2013 and is divisional head of property.
Prior to joining Barbican, David was deputy head of global property for Travelers Syndicate. Other positions have included property class underwriter at Catlin Group and placing broker at Sedgwick Insurance Brokers.
David has worked in the insurance industry since 1995, focusing primarily on the property sector. During his career, he has led a number of property teams, working on global programmes and in particular the US market. David is a technically driven underwriter who has maintained and developed a broad range of client and broker relationships.
David is ACII qualified.
Louis is a director at Barbican and joined in December 2007.
Louis is a chartered accountant with extensive experience in the insurance industry with both Lloyd’s and non-Lloyd’s companies. Having trained with PricewaterhouseCoopers in London, Louis moved to GenRe as assistant vice president in the finance department. In 2003, Louis moved to Wellington Underwriting plc, where he was responsible for corporate development.
Louis holds a degree in Physiology from the University of Bristol.
Austyn is head of group strategy and joined Barbican in January 2012.
Austyn has considerable strategic and management experience. Prior to joining Barbican, he spent nearly 10 years at Hiscox, rising to the position of head of the firm’s art and private client division. Austyn has also held a number of other senior management positions, including head of private client group at AIG in addition to frontline broking and underwriting roles.
