Barbican Insurance Group launches charitable Foundation
13 February 2014
Three charities chosen to receive financial and volunteer support
Barbican has today announced the launch of the Barbican Foundation, a charitable fund which has been set up to help support smaller charities which are local to the firm’s London offices.
The firm has also announced the first three charities that will be supported by the Foundation, which are: The Cardinal Hume Centre; the Oliver Fisher Special Care Baby Trust and the UK Keratoconus Self-Help and Support Association. Each charity will benefit from charitable donations as well as volunteer support from the Barbican team.
David Reeves, Chief Executive Officer of Barbican Insurance Group, said: “We are delighted to be able to support these three very worthwhile charities, each one of which has been nominated and voted for by Barbican staff members. The aim of the Barbican Foundation is to work with smaller, local charities where we believe our contribution – whether that is a donation or volunteer work – can make a real difference to the ability of each organisation to achieve its goals. Moving forward, we will also be looking to support other charitable organisations through the Foundation.”
The Cardinal Hume Centre helps give homeless young people, families in need and local people the skills to overcome poverty and homelessness. The Centre has also set up the ‘Supporting the Homeless Education and Training Provision’ in partnership with City of Westminster College, offering training in areas such as IT and catering and support with life skills such as literacy and budgeting.
The Oliver Fisher Special Care Baby Trust helps support the Oliver Fisher Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in the Medway Maritime Hospital in Kent through public donations and events. The money raised is used to buy life-saving equipment for very sick and premature babies.
The UK Keratoconus Self-Help and Support Association works to raise awareness of Keratoconus, an eye condition which distorts the cornea resulting in short-sightedness and irregular vision. The association provides information and support for people in the UK who suffer from this condition.
