Barbican appoints healthcare underwriting manager

London, 25 September 2018 – Barbican Insurance Group has today announced the appointment of James Barrett as underwriting manager in the firm’s healthcare division, with immediate effect.
Barrett brings over a decade of healthcare experience to the role and during his career has conducted business across both the US and international markets. He is a highly technical underwriter and has worked with an extensive range of clients across the profession providing medical professional liability and umbrella coverages.
Most recently, Barrett was a senior underwriter in the healthcare (products and global markets) team and vice president at Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, having joined the firm in 2011. Prior to this, he worked at Chaucer Syndicates in the institutional healthcare liability team as an assistant underwriter.
Commenting on the appointment, Ondine Bourrut-Lacouture, divisional head of accident, casualty and healthcare, said: “James is a highly experienced and respected underwriter in the healthcare arena. He combines excellent technical abilities with strong business acumen and portfolio management. We are delighted he has agreed to lead our healthcare team.”

Barrett is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute (FCII) and has achieved the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation from the American Insurance Institute.
