Looking after our environment
We are an environmentally conscious business and introducing energy efficiency measures is a key part of our drive to reduce the impact our activities have on the environment. A recent example is an IT programme to consolidate existing physical computer servers into one virtual server, achieving energy savings of approximately 80%. A ‘paper-light’ policy and initiatives such as ‘follow-me printing’ have also significantly reduced paper wastage. We use carbon neutral suppliers wherever possible and we apply ethical sourcing practices when employing external service providers.
In a recent office expansion, we insisted contractors fitting out the new floor worked to the SKA rating - an environmental assessment standard for sustainable fit-outs. This covers ensuring proper recycling of waste materials; energy efficient air-conditioning and lighting; and sourcing environmentally-friendly supplies – for example the paint in the office is made of 90% recycled material, the kitchen is made from 80% recycled material, and all timber used was supplied with a chain of custody from an SKA-recognised sustainable forest certification scheme.
Looking after our employees
Maintaining the well-being of our staff contributes to a more productive and healthy working environment. Initiatives in this area include providing free fruit for our employees each week (for each fruit basket a tree is planted on our behalf in Malawi); a ‘cycle to work’ programme; and offering a reduced gym membership scheme.
