Job Description:

This role will report to the Team Leader - Insurance, within the Claims Department. You will be responsible for day to day claims handling and the supervision of external adjusting partners to pre-defined objectives and targets to ensure that Barbican exceeds the claims principles and minimum standards set out by Lloyd’s. Your role will contribute to the overall success of the Claims Department in achieving its objectives as part of the overall Group Strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Completion of allocated claims handling and administration tasks in a timely and professional manner; including adjustment, reserving, diary and peer review to pre-defined authority levels.

Mentoring junior team members – including account specific partnerships and ad hoc queries.

Supervision of external partners such as loss adjusting and legal panels, third party administrators and auditors to ensure compliance with key performance metrics and billing guidelines.

Compiling claims management information and reports.

Ensuring that performance standards are met and/or exceeded in line with Barbican’s reporting on key risk indicators, independent peer review and internal audit.

Protection of Barbican's corporate reputation and interests by maintaining adequate control and supervision over communications and documentation considered confidential or legally privileged.

Compliance with legal, ethical and regulatory responsibilities applicable to Lloyd’s Managing Agents in general and arising out of claims from policies underwritten by Barbican Syndicates. This will include responsibilities imposed upon Barbican under the various Lloyd’s Claims Schemes and Lloyd’s Minimum Standards (especially Claims MS2 and Conduct Risk MS11) and other relevant Barbican policies and procedures and industry standards.

Liaise with key internal and external stakeholders on claims related issued as required.

Other ad hoc duties consistent with the role.

Person Specifications

 

1

Educated to A-Level or beyond is preferable; ideally having commenced Insurance professional qualifications.

General Insurance/Reinsurance claims knowledge with at least 10 years claims experience, preferably within the London Market using ECF.

Understanding of London and International insurance/reinsurance market dynamics. Previous experience across Barbican’s lines of business advantageous.

Previous use of Iris, helpful but not essential.

General computer literacy- Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.
