The Barbican Insurance Group (“Barbican”) recognises the benefits of a diverse workforce and is committed to providing a working environment that is free from discrimination.

In line with the Equality Act 2010 and the requirements of our financial regulators, Barbican seeks to promote the principles of equality and diversity in all of its dealings with employees, consultants, non-executive directors, job applicants, clients, customers, suppliers, contractors, recruitment agencies and the public.

This is a summary of a full policy statement that sets out Barbican’s commitment to promoting equality and diversity in the workplace and within the Boards of its companies. It outlines the expectations that Barbican has of its employees as to how they should treat each other, and it also includes information on options available to employees should they wish to raise concerns.

Recruitment and Selection

Barbican shall ensure that each new appointment or promotion is made on merit, taking account of the specific skills, experience, and knowledge needed for the role and considering the individual against objective criteria.

Board appointments are also made having due regard for the diversity among Board members as a whole, including gender and a broad set of qualities and competences. We remain committed to promoting diversity in the Boardroom and fostering an inclusive culture where the collective competence and effectiveness of each Board can be enhanced.

The selection of both executive and non-executive individuals to join a Board is, in part, dependent on the pool of candidates available with the necessary skills, knowledge and experience. The ultimate decision in each case is based on merit and the contribution the chosen candidate would bring to the particular Board.

In addition to Board diversity, Barbican places emphasis on ensuring the development of diversity among our senior management population and supports and oversees our objective of achieving a diverse and gender balanced work force that appropriately reflects the customers and communities we serve.
