Writing worldwide on a direct and facultative basis our marine insurance division is split into three areas:
We provide a wide range of coverages for hull and machinery, on full or limited conditions, including liability, MII, MAP, total loss interest/increased value and war risks. We can also offer cover for builder's risk and port property.
Our cargo cover spans all general cargo risks, across a very broad range of appetites.
We provide primary and excess coverage for a range of marine liability, including charterers legal liability, maritime employers liability, maritime general liability, and protection and indemnity.

Simon joined Barbican in April 2010 and is division head of marine, aviation and transport.
Simon has over twenty years of experience in the insurance industry. In 1994 he joined a small firm of management consultants dedicated to the insurance industry. 1997 saw Simon return to broking with the international marine reinsurance division at Aon. In 2005, he joined Agnew Higgins Pickering, working in international marine and energy reinsurance.
Christopher joined Barbican in September 2010 as underwriter for marine hull insurance.
Prior to joining Barbican, Chris spent nine years at Sunderland Marine Mutual predominately focusing on brown water business and fishing vessels.
Michael joined Barbican in January 2016 as a marine liability underwriter.
Michael has over 16 years underwriting and broking experience, most recently as a marine underwriter at Osprey Underwriting Agency. He was previously a reinsurance broker at Cameron Richard Smith Insurance Services, before joining the ReSpecialty Marine & Energy department at Aon in 2003. During his career, he has also worked as a deputy underwriter at Charles Taylor Consulting for the Standard Bermuda P&I Club.
Michael is ACII qualified and holds a degree in Law.
Brendan joined in May 2016 as cargo underwriter.
Brendan has over 25 years’ experience, most recently as senior marine insurance underwriter, London Markets at Zurich Insurance. He joined Zurich in 2008, and previous roles included UK marine development manager, and senior marine insurance underwriter, UK regions. Prior to this, he was a regional marine cargo underwriter at CNA Insurance. He began his insurance career in 1989 at Aviva Insurance, joining the marine cargo team in 1991.
Mark joined Barbican in January 2015 and is underwriter for marine insurance.
Prior to joining Barbican, Mark was an assistant hull and war underwriter within the marine division at Markel International; a position which he had held since September 2008 having previously worked as an underwriting assistant within its underwriting support team. Mark began his insurance career at NDP/Claims Assistance UK in March 2003 as a claims assistant.
Rosie joined Barbican in May 2012 and is assistant underwriter for marine insurance.
Rosie previously spent three and a half years as a sales support technician for insurance brokers, Grove and Dean.
Rosie is Dip CII qualified and working towards ACII accreditation.
Matthew joined Barbican in July 2016 and is an underwriting assistant for marine insurance.
Matthew joined Barbican after graduating from Oxford Brookes University with a degree in Business Management and Geography.
Matthew is Cert CII qualified and working towards Dip CII.
Harry joined Barbican in April 2016 and is underwriting assistant for marine insurance.
Prior to joining Barbican, Harry completed the apprenticeship programme at Lloyd’s which included placements in the delegated authorities department at Lloyd’s and at Lockton Companies as an account handler.
Harry is Cert CII qualified and working towards Dip CII accreditation.
