Aaron Coates joined Barbican in January 2008 from Montpelier Re in Bermuda. There he was involved in underwriting and developing a Property Cat Retro portfolio on behalf of Blue Ocean Re.

He had started his London Market career in 1998 at RSA Re (then Copenhagen Re) moving on to GE Insurance Solutions as an underwriter on the Cat Retro portfolio in 2002. While at GE, Aaron had worked on the Cat Modelling questionnaire and its establishment in the market place helping improve data transparency in Retro portfolios.

Combining a strong understanding of catastrophe models with analytical skills, Aaron has developed and deploys innovative pricing and portfolio management tools to support and enhance underwriting performance.
