Effective claims management
We strongly believe that collaboration is the best approach to effective claims management. We will never attempt to force you to settle a claim, preferring to work with you to help you deal with each claim as it develops.
When a claim arises, we make a point of actively engaging with you early in the process, making sure we understand the nature of each claim from the outset. Our objective is always to resolve claims as quickly and fairly as possible and we have built important partnerships to help us achieve this.
We work together with a range of carefully selected claims representatives, who have over many years built up a bank of claims litigation experience and incident resolution management knowledge. They are always on hand to give guidance if required.
As a Lloyd’s syndicate, we subscribe to the Lloyd’s claims principles. This provides our clients with the additional reassurance of an official and approved approach to claims handling.
Building client relationships
We see ourselves as partners, working alongside our clients to understand their specific needs and then meet their requirements through tailored and effective solutions. Healthcare liability is a long tail business. We believe it is essential, therefore, to build mutually beneficial and enduring relationships. We recognise the need for consistency and reliability in a constantly fluctuating pricing environment. So, we make it a priority to work closely with our clients to manage the excesses of the market cycle.
Regular visits to our clients are an important feature in supporting relationships, helping us to keep in direct touch with the evolving healthcare market and the insurance needs arising from it.
Working together to reduce risk
The management of risk is essential in the healthcare setting and fundamental to our business.
To support our clients in this key area, we have partnered with selected leading risk management consultants to provide risk management education services. These are available to all our clients if they so choose.
The shape of our business
Healthcare Liability, part of Barbican’s Specialty division, currently accounts for about 6% of the Barbican Syndicate’s total capacity.
We have lead and follow relationships with some of the most well established health systems in the US, including large teaching hospitals on both seaboards. We also support numerous regional, specialist and community hospital systems, including several children’s hospitals, and physicians groups both in and outside the US.
In the area of long term care, we lead a proven nursing home underwriting facility; our open market accounts vary in size from multi-state skilled nursing providers to single location assisted and independent living facilities.
Our allied health portfolio ranges from worldwide nurse staffing agencies to single state radiology service providers, issued through binding authorities and open market placement.
The overall objective of the Barbican Healthcare team is to build a diverse book of worldwide business, drawing on our strengths, experience and reliability to work collaboratively with clients in any healthcare setting to minimise and transfer their professional liability risk.
