The CBI definition of Corporate Social Responsibility is: “the acknowledgement by companies that they should be accountable not only for their financial performance but also for the impact of their activities on society and/or the environment.”
As far as the Barbican Insurance Group is concerned, we make every effort to follow best CSR principles in both a social as well as a commercial context. We are also at pains to behave and operate in a way that can enhance the reputation of our particular industry.
Some examples of recent initiatives that reflect this policy are:
LondonOnTap
A unique collaboration between Thames Water and the Mayor of London to promote what is a sustainable, affordable and great-tasting source of drinking water. Barbican is backing the campaign as a City-based business committed to helping local environment-friendly initiatives like this one.
The 'Guy Fox' History Project
This is a educational charity that uses cartoon character, Guy Fox, in all its communications. As part of the Lloyd's community programme, the project was given funds to publish a ‘child's eye’ view, created by local kids themselves, on how the world of insurance really works.
Combining corporate social responsibility with commercial benefit, we purchased our own supply of these books and, personalised to Barbican, they were made available as client giveaways at our Lloyd's boxes and head office reception.
Royal British Legion
Barbican also contributes to Lloyd's ongoing support for members of the Armed Forces through the Royal British Legion. The company currently subscribes an annual sum of £2,500 to this charity.
St. Clements' Church
We are pleased to contribute to the ongoing renovation work on this, one of the finest ecclesiastical buildings in Europe and designed by Sir Christopher Wren.
A close neighbour of Barbican, we hope that St. Clements is preserved and protected for the benefit of generations to come.
